Social Media MCP Server: The Complete Guide for Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor

What a social media MCP server is, what to look for in one, and how to connect a single server that posts, replies and reports on 7 platforms from any AI app.

A social media MCP server is the bridge between an AI app and your social accounts. It turns “post this Reel at 6pm and pin a comment on the YouTube version” into real API calls on Instagram and YouTube. This guide explains how they work, what separates a toy from one you can run a brand on, and how to connect one server that covers Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X, LinkedIn, Facebook and Threads (plus Skool, WordPress and ads) in any AI app.

One MCP server, every AI app, every platform

How MCP works, briefly

The Model Context Protocol is an open standard for giving AI apps tools. A server publishes a list of tools (name, description, input schema); the AI app shows them to the model; the model decides when to call them. Remote servers run over HTTP, so there’s nothing to install: you add a URL and sign in, or pass an API key in a header.

What to look for in a social media MCP server

1. Does it publish, or only read?

Many open-source servers only read (search posts, fetch transcripts). Publishing requires approved apps with each platform, which is the hard part. Check for real write tools.

2. Official APIs, not scraping

Servers that drive websites with your session cookies break platform terms and get accounts restricted. Look for OAuth sign-in per platform.

3. Platform rules handled

Each platform has its own required fields: TikTok’s consent flags and privacy levels, YouTube’s made-for-kids flag, Instagram’s video processing, X’s character counting. A good server handles or documents them so the model gets it right the first time.

4. Scheduling on the server

If scheduling depends on your laptop being on, it isn’t scheduling. Posts should be stored and published server-side.

5. Safety controls

A read-only mode, per-connection keys you can revoke, and destructive tools marked so the AI asks first. For ads: dry runs and paused-by-default.

6. Engagement and analytics, not just posting

Comments, DMs, comment-to-DM funnels, post analytics, follower growth and best time to post are what make an agent useful day to day.

Connect Creator OS in your AI app

  • Claude: Settings, Connectors, Add custom connector, paste https://mcp.creatoros.ca/mcp, sign in.
  • ChatGPT: developer mode, add a connector with the same URL. Guide.
  • Claude Code: claude mcp add --transport http creatoros https://mcp.creatoros.ca/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer cos_live_...". Guide.
  • Cursor, Windsurf, VS Code: an mcpServers entry with the URL and header. Guide.

Platform-by-platform guides

What people actually use it for

  • Creators: “post this clip everywhere at 6pm” and “what worked this week?”
  • Founders: build in public from the editor, launch posts from the diff.
  • Agencies: one workspace per client, one connection per workspace. See agencies.
  • Community owners: Skool plus socials from one chat.
  • Developers: the same features over REST, see one API for every platform.

Beyond chat: agents

MCP is great when you’re in the loop. For hands-off operation, Social Agents runs the same capabilities on a schedule, and the Creator OS Claude skills give Claude Code tested playbooks for each job.
