Post to Instagram From ChatGPT: The Connector Setup

ChatGPT can post to Instagram, TikTok and YouTube once you add a connector. How to set it up in developer mode, what to ask, and what ChatGPT can’t do alone.

Out of the box, ChatGPT can write your Instagram captions but can’t post to Instagram. Add a connector and it can: ChatGPT supports remote MCP servers as connectors, and the Creator OS connector gives it tools to publish and schedule Reels, carousels and Stories, plus TikTok, YouTube, X, LinkedIn, Facebook and Threads. This guide covers the setup and the prompts that work.

How ChatGPT gets posting tools

What ChatGPT can do once connected

  • Publish or schedule Instagram Reels, feed posts, carousels and Stories.
  • Post the same video to TikTok and YouTube Shorts.
  • Read post analytics, follower growth and your best time to post.
  • Read and answer comments and DMs.
  • Set up comment-to-DM funnels (“comment GUIDE to get the link”).

Setup

  1. Create a Creator OS account and connect your Instagram (Business or Creator account) and any other socials.
  2. In ChatGPT, open Settings and turn on developer mode (under the connectors / apps settings).
  3. Add a new connector with the URL https://mcp.creatoros.ca/mcp.
  4. Sign in to Creator OS when asked, pick the workspace, and choose read only (analysis) or read & write (posting).
  5. In a new chat, enable the connector and ask: “list my connected social accounts”.

ChatGPT’s settings labels move around between releases; if you can’t find developer mode, search the help center for “developer mode connectors”.

Prompts that work

  • “Here’s my Reel: [link]. Write 3 caption options, then post option 2 at 6pm today with the link to my guide in the first comment.”
  • “Plan next week: one Reel a day. Here are the 5 video links. Show me a table first, then schedule.”
  • “How did my Reels do this month vs last month? Which 3 did best and why?”
  • “Answer every unanswered comment from today. Show me anything negative instead of replying.”

Things to know

ChatGPT needs a link to your media

It posts from a public URL (or a media id the connector created). Upload to a link you control, or let the connector import it.

Read only is a real safety switch

A read-only connection only receives the reporting tools, and the API refuses writes from it. Perfect for “analyse my account” chats.

Destructive actions ask first

Deleting posts or comments is marked as destructive, so ChatGPT confirms with you.

Instagram rules still apply

No clickable links in captions, Business or Creator accounts only, and the API can’t attach trending audio (bake it into the video). See the Instagram MCP guide for the full list.

ChatGPT vs Claude for this

Both work with the same connector. Claude’s connector setup has no developer mode step, and Claude Code can read local files directly, which is handy for folders of videos. Use whichever you already pay for. Guides: Claude, ChatGPT as a social media manager.
