Auto Post Instagram Carousels From Shopify in 2026

Auto post Instagram carousels from Shopify: sync your catalog, build slides, and schedule from one place. See the 2026 workflow and the exact steps to set it up.

You auto post Instagram carousels from Shopify by reading your catalog into an AI agent through the hosted MCP server, building each carousel with create_post, and scheduling it with schedule_at and timezone. The same agent already holds your Instagram connection and your Shopify store, so product data and publishing live in one workspace.

What Does Auto Posting Instagram Carousels From Shopify Mean?

It means a product list becomes a scheduled Instagram carousel without you opening the Instagram app or a scheduler UI. The work splits into four steps: pull products from the Shopify catalog, decide which ones share a theme, attach one image per slide, then schedule the post. An agent connected to Creator OS does all four, because the Shopify store and the Instagram account sit under the same workspace and the same API key.

Two constraints shape the plan. Instagram carousels need a Business or Creator account connected through Creator OS, and the Instagram API cannot attach trending audio, so any sound has to be baked into the files before upload. If you are new to the connection step, start with the Instagram MCP server guide.

What makes this different from a template tool is the loop. You read real catalog data, publish, then read get_post_analytics and let the numbers pick next week’s slides. Nothing is hardcoded.

How to Connect Your Shopify Catalog to Instagram

You connect two accounts once: the Shopify store and the Instagram Business or Creator profile. After that, every run reads and writes through the same workspace key.

  1. Connect Instagram through the web app or the CLI with creatoros accounts:connect instagram. A Creator or Business account is required; a personal account will not work.
  2. Connect Shopify with Shopify sign-in or an Admin API token. The store is not a posting target. It holds a blog and a catalog, and the catalog is what you read.
  3. Confirm both connections with creatoros accounts:health.

Stock, sales channels and markets need extra permissions that the merchant approves, so grant them if your carousel plan depends on inventory or market data. Once the store is connected, call shopify_list_products from your AI app, or hit the catalog endpoints listed in the Shopify API docs. The full connector path is at the MCP docs.

One useful detail: your API key is pinned to one workspace. An agent holding the key for a single client store cannot publish to another client’s Instagram. That matters if you run several stores.

How to Turn Product Pages Into Carousel Slides

A carousel is a theme, not a product dump. The strongest pattern is one category or one collection per carousel, with a hook slide first and the products after it.

Give the agent a prompt like this:

Use shopify_list_products to pull the 8 best sellers
in the "ceramics" collection. Build an Instagram carousel:
slide 1 is a hook image with no product, slides 2 to 8
are one product each with the product name and price.
Upload each image with upload_media_from_url first, then
create_post on instagram only. Draft it for my review.

The agent calls shopify_list_products, then upload_media_from_url for each image. That upload returns a med_ id you reuse on every platform, so you upload once and attach as many times as you like. Then it calls create_post with draft set.

Carousel options worth setting on the Instagram side: firstComment for the product links, since Instagram captions have no clickable links, and commentsEnabled if you want to close comments after publishing. If you want the carousel to double as a Reel, custom covers are available through instagramThumbnail or a frame through thumbOffset.

Slide slot What goes there Why
Slide 1 Hook image or collection shot Earns the swipe
Slides 2 to N One product per slide, name and price Keeps each slide readable
Caption Story plus a shop prompt Links go in firstComment

How to Schedule an Instagram Carousel From One Place

You schedule by sending schedule_at and timezone in the same create_post call, so the carousel is built and queued in one step. No second tool, no export.

The CLI version of the same thing:

creatoros posts:create \
  --text "New ceramics drop: 7 pieces, made this week." \
  --platforms instagram \
  --media https://cdn.shop.com/1.jpg,https://cdn.shop.com/2.jpg \
  --scheduledAt 2026-03-04T09:30:00-05:00 \
  --timezone America/Toronto

If you have a whole month of carousels planned, creatoros posts:bulk-upload --file calendar.json --dryRun validates the batch before anything is queued. Drop the --dryRun flag when the check looks right.

To pick the time rather than guess it, call get_best_time_to_post or run creatoros analytics:best-time --platform instagram. That reads your own account history, not an industry average.

Instagram Schedule Post: Set It Once and Let It Run

Once one carousel is scheduled, the repeatable version is an automation: a stored prompt that reads the catalog, builds the next carousel, and schedules it on a cadence.

Create one from the API side with create_automation, or from the CLI with a cron schedule and a skill:

creatoros automations:create "weekly-ceramics-carousel" \
  --schedule "0 9 * * 1" \
  --skill post-everywhere \
  --target local

Keep the scope tight. One collection, one carousel, one slot. Check the run history with creatoros automations:logs and delete anything that misbehaves with creatoros automations:delete. If you prefer the manual route, the step by step is in the Instagram schedule post walkthrough.

Scheduling is not the end of the loop. After a carousel publishes, run get_post_analytics and let the top slides feed the next prompt. That is the difference between a calendar and a system.

What Tools Do You Need (Instagram Connector and MCP Setup)?

You need one Creator OS workspace, a connected Instagram Business or Creator account, a connected Shopify store, and an AI app that supports MCP connectors. Nothing to install on a server.

Setup for Claude: Settings, then Connectors, then Add custom connector. Paste https://mcp.creatoros.ca/mcp, sign in, choose the workspace, and pick read only or read & write. Each connection gets its own key, listed under Settings, then Connected apps. A read only connection only sees read tools, and the API refuses writes from it, so the carousel builder needs read & write.

For Claude Code, the same server over HTTP:

claude mcp add --transport http creatoros \
  https://mcp.creatoros.ca/mcp \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer cos_live_..."

ChatGPT takes the same URL as a connector in developer mode. Cursor, Windsurf and VS Code use an mcpServers entry with type http, the URL and the Authorization header. The server exposes about 160 tools, including the ones this workflow leans on: shopify_list_products, upload_media_from_url, create_post, schedule_at handling, get_post_analytics, get_best_time_to_post and create_automation. For anything outside the named tools, platform_request reaches the rest of the API.

There is also a Claude Code plugin that adds a publish guard, which asks Proceed or Cancel before anything is published, spent or deleted. If you want that safety layer over scheduled carousels, see the Claude Code plugin docs. For more on the agent side of scheduling, read scheduling Instagram posts with Claude.

Can You Do This With a Free Workflow?

Yes, with limits worth knowing before you build. You can script it against the REST API with your own cron and your own server, or run it by hand in the CLI each week. Both paths are included in every plan, including the free trial.

The API authenticates with a cos_live_ key pinned to one workspace. The request shape for a carousel is the standard post body:

{
  "content": "New ceramics drop: 7 pieces, made this week.",
  "platforms": ["instagram"],
  "media": ["med_abc123", "med_def456"],
  "schedule_at": "2026-03-04T09:30:00Z",
  "timezone": "America/Toronto"
}

Errors come back in one shape, { error: { code, message, status } }, so your script has one thing to parse. Networks you name but have not connected come back in missing_platforms while the rest still go out, which keeps a bad config from blocking a good carousel. Webhooks such as post.published and post.failed are signed with X-CreatorOS-Signature, so you can react in code. The base URL and full request list are at the docs.

The tradeoff: a self-built cron needs somewhere to run, and it will not know your best posting times unless you fetch them. The hosted automation with create_automation removes that upkeep.

If you would rather watch the setup than read it, the walkthroughs are on the KevBuildsApps YouTube channel, and the launch video shows the MCP server in use.

FAQ

How do I schedule an Instagram post from Shopify products?

Read the products with shopify_list_products, upload each product image with upload_media_from_url to get med_ ids, then call create_post with those ids in media plus schedule_at and timezone. The carousel queues against your connected Instagram account. No export or CSV step is needed.

Can you auto post Instagram carousels?

Yes, through the Instagram API with a Business or Creator account connected to Creator OS. You can build the carousel by hand, schedule it from a script, or have an automation assemble it from your catalog on a cadence. Carousels support multiple images in one post, and each image reuses an uploaded med_ id.

What is an Instagram connector and do I need one?

An Instagram connector is the connection between your Creator OS workspace and your Instagram account, plus an AI app link if you are driving it with an agent. You need the Instagram connection to publish at all. You need the AI app link only if you want the agent to build and schedule for you instead of clicking through the web app. Setup steps are at the MCP docs.

How do I post multiple products in one Instagram carousel?

Put one product image per slide in the media array, in the order you want them shown, and write the caption as the story rather than a product list. Add the product links in firstComment, because Instagram captions have no clickable links. Eight products plus a hook slide is a practical ceiling for readability.

Can you cross post from Instagram to TikTok?

Creator OS can post the same content to both, but the settings are per platform, so build it as one post with two platform entries rather than a straight copy. TikTok requires privacy and consent flags, which the simple post form fills for you. TikTok comment replies are not supported, so route engagement to the channels that handle it.
