Claude Code YouTube Comment Automation: Auto Pin on Live 2026

Wire Claude Code to the Creator OS plugin and CLI so your scheduled YouTube video gets a pinned comment the second it goes live. Copy the exact commands.

Creator OS · October 23, 2026 · 6 min read

Claude Code YouTube comment automation means letting an AI agent run your YouTube comments from the terminal. With the Creator OS plugin and CLI installed, Claude Code writes the video, sets a first comment, and queues the post so Creator OS publishes the video and posts that first comment at the scheduled time. No manual step at upload time.

What does Claude Code YouTube comment automation actually do?

It puts an agent in charge of the comment loop, not just the upload. The agent writes the video, schedules it, attaches a first comment, then answers replies after publish.

Three things happen without you opening YouTube Studio:

  • A long form video is queued with a title, visibility, category and a first comment up to 10,000 characters. Creator OS posts that first comment when the video publishes, and the option is documented as posted and pinned.
  • After publish, the agent reads comments and replies on your behalf, because comment replies are supported on YouTube.
  • The whole flow runs from a Claude Code session, so a single prompt can carry a week of uploads.

What it does not do: YouTube has no DMs in Creator OS, and custom thumbnails only apply to long form. The mechanism is the firstComment post option, which Creator OS sends after the video publishes.

How to get Claude Code and add the Creator OS plugin

Install the plugin once and Claude Code gets the MCP server, the campaign builder skills and a publish guard that asks before anything goes out.

  1. Open Claude Code 2.1.287 or later.
  2. Run /plugin marketplace add kevinbadi/creatoros-claude-plugin.
  3. Run /plugin install creatoros@creatoros.
  4. Run /plugin configure creatoros@creatoros and paste a cos_live_... key from Settings > API keys.

The plugin also gives you /creatoros for a live pane, /cos-stats, /cos-health, and a publish guard that shows Proceed or Cancel before anything is published, spent or deleted. If you prefer plain MCP, add the hosted server instead:

claude mcp add --transport http creatoros https://mcp.creatoros.ca/mcp \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer cos_live_..."

Both setups are documented at https://www.creatoros.ca/docs/claude-code and https://www.creatoros.ca/docs/mcp. If you want the bigger picture first, read how to build a social media agent with Claude Code.

How the CLI handles the first comment on a scheduled video

The comment ships inside the post, so Creator OS publishes it at the same moment the video does. There is no cron job to babysit.

creatoros posts:create \
  --platforms youtube \
--title "5 Claude Code tricks I use every day" \
--text "Full walkthrough, no fluff." \
  --scheduledAt 2026-03-04T14:00:00Z --timezone America/Toronto

The long form title caps at 100 characters. Visibility can be public, private or unlisted, and containsSyntheticMedia flags AI generated footage. When the post carries a first comment, Creator OS posts it and pins it at publish time through the API or the agent. A prompt that does the whole job in Claude Code:

Schedule this video for Thursday 2pm ET as unlisted, title under 80
chars, and set a first comment that asks viewers what they want
covered next. Confirm the schedule before publishing.

The agent calls create_post through MCP or shells out to the CLI, then you can verify with creatoros posts:get <postId>. For the manual version of this workflow, read post and pin a comment on a YouTube video.

Can Claude make YouTube Shorts and set their first comment too?

Yes, and no extra command is needed. Vertical short videos become Shorts automatically, and the first comment travels on the same post.

Two differences matter:

Setting Long form video YouTube Short
First comment Posted and pinned, up to 10,000 chars Sent with the post
Custom thumbnail Supported Not applied
Scheduling Yes Yes
Comment replies by agent Yes Yes

So a Shorts run looks like this in Claude Code: batch ten vertical clips, schedule them across a week, and give each one a question as its first comment. The agent writes the comment text per clip so you are not shipping the same line ten times. The YouTube Shorts automation post covers the clip side, and the Claude Code Shorts workflow covers the prompt structure.

What about YouTube quota and avoiding rate limits

The short answer: don’t hammer the API with polling. Let one post call carry the video and the comment, and have the agent read comments in batches instead of on a timer.

A few habits keep a busy channel calm:

  • One call per video. The video plus first comment is a single post. Splitting it doubles your calls for no gain.
  • Pull comments on demand. creatoros inbox:comments --platform youtube --limit 50 is better than a loop that runs every minute.
  • Answer in one pass. Read the thread once, draft replies, then send them with creatoros inbox:reply <postId> --accountId <id> --message "...".
  • Keep the agent local to one workspace. An API key is pinned to a single workspace, so a runaway agent cannot reach a second channel.

If a post fails, creatoros posts:retry <postId> resends it rather than making you rebuild the payload. Post options per platform are listed at https://www.creatoros.ca/docs/post-options.

Where comment to DM fits in

Once the first comment is handled, the next gain is turning comment threads into conversations you own off platform. On Instagram and Facebook, Creator OS runs keyword comment to DM funnels, and the agent can set them up. On YouTube, the agent replies in the thread.

creatoros automations:create \
  --name "instagram-guide-followup" \
  --accountId acc_xxx \
  --keywords "template,guide,link" \
  --matchMode contains \
--commentReply "Check your DMs for the details."

That pattern is the same one described in the comments to DM use case. For channels where you also want a voice over or a launch clip, the one line launch video generator shows what the skills do. If you would rather watch the flow than read it, the walkthroughs live on the KevBuildsApps YouTube channel, and the launch video shows the plugin in a live session.

FAQ

How do I get Claude Code and the Creator OS plugin?

Install Claude Code 2.1.287 or later, then run the three plugin commands: marketplace add, install, configure. The configure step asks for a cos_live_ key. The full sequence is at https://www.creatoros.ca/docs/claude-code.

Can Claude Code pin a comment on a scheduled YouTube video automatically?

Yes. When the post carries a first comment, Creator OS posts and pins it as the video goes live. You schedule once and do not return to YouTube Studio to pin anything.

Does comment to DM automation count against YouTube quota?

On YouTube, Creator OS replies inside the comment thread, and each reply is an API call against your connection. Creator OS does not publish a specific quota number for YouTube, so treat volume as something to watch in your own channel. Comment to DM keyword funnels run on Instagram and Facebook, not YouTube.

Can Claude make YouTube Shorts and set their first comment too?

Yes. Vertical short videos publish as Shorts automatically, and the first comment is sent on the same post. The one thing you lose on Shorts is a custom thumbnail, which applies to long form only.

What is the difference between this and a standard YouTube pinned comment workflow?

A standard workflow means uploading, remembering to write the comment, and pinning it by hand after publish. Here the comment is part of the scheduled post, so the agent can queue a week of videos in one prompt and never miss the pin.
