YouTube Shorts Automation: Upload and Schedule Shorts With AI

Automate YouTube Shorts: upload and schedule Shorts from Claude or an API, pin a comment to the full video, cross-post to TikTok and Reels, and track views.

Creator OS · October 3, 2026 · 3 min read

YouTube Shorts automation means your Shorts go up on a schedule without you opening YouTube Studio: the upload, the title, the pinned comment and the cross-post to TikTok and Reels. With Creator OS, Claude (or your own script) does all of it. YouTube decides a video is a Short from its shape and length, so the job is mostly getting the right file to the right place at the right time, every day.

A week of Shorts from one prompt

What counts as a Short

A vertical (9:16) or square video within YouTube’s Shorts length limit is treated as a Short automatically. There’s no separate “Short” switch in the API. Upload a vertical clip and it lands in the Shorts feed. Landscape or longer videos become regular uploads.

Automate it from Claude

Connect the YouTube MCP server, then:

  • “Upload every clip in ./week-42/ as Shorts, one a day at noon starting Monday. Title each one from its first spoken line, under 60 characters.”
  • “Pin a comment on each Short linking the full episode.”
  • “Post the same clips to TikTok and Instagram Reels at the same times.”
  • “Every Monday, tell me which Shorts from last week got the most views and what their hooks had in common.”

Automate it from code

# upload once, reuse everywhere
creatoros media:upload ./week-42/day1.mp4        # -> med_...
creatoros posts:create --platforms youtube,tiktok,instagram \
--media med_... --text "The prompt that wrote my week" \
  --scheduledAt 2026-10-12T12:00:00 --timezone America/New_York

Or schedule a whole calendar at once with creatoros posts:bulk-upload --file calendar.json --dryRun (then without --dryRun). The REST API takes the same fields; see YouTube API docs.

The pinned comment trick

Shorts viewers rarely open the description. A pinned comment linking the full video or your offer is the one link they see. Pass firstComment and it’s posted and pinned when the Short goes live. See auto-pinning YouTube comments.

Where the Shorts come from

  • Cut from long videos. Ask Claude Code to find the best 30 to 45 second moments in a transcript and cut them with ffmpeg.
  • Animated talking-head shorts. OPEN VIDEO EDIT turns a raw clip into a fully animated short with captions and graphics, free and open source.
  • Repurposed Reels and TikToks you already have.

Shorts rules to know

  • Custom thumbnails for Shorts can’t be set through the API; YouTube picks a frame. Make the first frame strong.
  • Titles are up to 100 characters, but short titles read better in the Shorts feed.
  • Set madeForKids correctly (Creator OS defaults it to false).
  • Uploads cost YouTube API quota; Creator OS carries that for you.

Running several channels

Shorts channel networks run one channel per workspace, and the same automation switches between them. See managing multiple YouTube channels. YouTube network plans start at $19.99/month for 5 channels.
