E-commerce social automation: Shopify catalog is the practice of connecting your store catalog to a social publishing system so product data drives what you create and schedule. In Creator OS you connect a Shopify store, and its products, variants, images, prices and stock become usable by posts, the API, the MCP server and the CLI. A connected store is not a posting target: it has a blog and a catalog.

What is e-commerce social automation for a Shopify catalog?

E-commerce social automation for a Shopify catalog means your store’s product data drives what gets created, instead of you retyping product names and prices into a scheduler.

A connected Shopify store in Creator OS is not a posting target. It has a blog and a catalog. The catalog is the part that matters here: products, variants, images, prices, stock, tags and sales channels, reached through the Commerce API group and the matching MCP tools (shopify_list_products, shopify_create_product, shopify_set_inventory, shopify_create_discount).

Your social accounts sit alongside the store. Creator OS publishes to 11 platforms plus Skool, and the same API key pins an agent to one workspace, which is one set of socials. That scoped key is the safety property that makes catalog automation practical: an agent working on one brand cannot post to another. Full details are at the Shopify API docs and the Commerce API docs.

How Shopify catalog data feeds posts and carousels

Reading the catalog gives you products with stable fields, and each product image becomes a media id you can reuse on every platform.

The flow has three steps. First, read the catalog. Second, upload (or reference) product imagery once. Third, build the post. POST /v1/media uploads a file a single time and returns a med_ id you can reuse across platforms, so a five-product carousel does not mean five separate uploads per network.

Here is the CLI shape for a catalog-driven carousel. The CLI has no Shopify commands, so product data comes through the API or the MCP server, then the post is created with the CLI or the API:

# 1. upload product shots once
creatoros media:upload hero-tee.jpg
# returns med_abc123

# 2. create the post across accounts
creatoros posts:create \
--text "New drop: the heavyweight tee. Link in first comment." \
  --accounts acc_ig,acc_tt,acc_yt \
  --media med_abc123,med_def456,med_ghi789 \
  --scheduledAt 2026-03-04T14:00:00Z --timezone America/Toronto

# 3. check caption length before it goes out
creatoros validate:post-length --text "New drop: the heavyweight tee."

What each platform does with those images differs, and Creator OS applies the rules for you. Instagram accepts feed images, carousels and Stories. Facebook supports link carousels through facebookSettings.carouselCards with 2 to 10 images. Reddit galleries are images only. A platform named in a post that is not connected comes back in missing_platforms, and the rest still publish.

Goal Surface Notes
Product launch feed post Posts API or posts:create Simple form takes platforms and media as med_ ids or URLs
Multi-image product carousel Instagram carousel, Facebook link carousel Facebook cards take 2 to 10 images
Short video from a product Reels, Shorts, TikTok TikTok needs its consent flags, which the simple form fills
Catalog ads Meta catalog sync via the Commerce API Stock, sales channels and markets need extra permissions the merchant approves
Promote an existing post ads_boost_post Part of the Ads add-on

How social commerce AI picks products, captions, and hashtags

A social agent does the picking when you give it two things: read access to the catalog and a clear rule for what to promote.

Creator OS is not a model. It works with any MCP-capable AI app, and it ships the tools the agent calls. The hosted MCP server at https://mcp.creatoros.ca/mcp exposes about 160 tools covering posts, analytics, comments, DMs, automations, webhooks, Skool, Shopify, the blog and the Ads add-on. Connect it from Claude under Settings, Connectors, Add custom connector, or from Claude Code with:

claude mcp add --transport http creatoros \
  https://mcp.creatoros.ca/mcp \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer cos_live_..."

Now the agent can call shopify_list_products to see the catalog, check_caption_length before it writes anything long, upload_media_from_url for product shots, create_post to schedule, and get_post_analytics afterward.

A worked prompt that selects products rather than guessing:

List my Shopify products tagged "spring-2026". Pick the three
with the lowest stock. For each, draft a 120 character caption
in a plain voice, no exclamation marks, and one line of hashtags.
Check caption length first. Schedule all three as a carousel to
Instagram and Threads for Tuesday 9am America/Toronto. Show me
the drafts before publishing.

Read-only connections only see read tools, and the API refuses writes from them, so you can hand a client or a cautious teammate a connection that reads the catalog and cannot publish. Destructive tools, including delete post and delete blog article, are marked so the AI app asks first.

Can social agents post to multiple e-commerce platforms automatically?

Yes, when “platforms” means both the social networks and the store surfaces, and when each destination is connected as its own account.

A single post can name several platforms at once, and the advanced form of POST /v1/posts lets you set per-platform options: platforms as objects with platform, account_id, options and content, with a top-level tiktok object for TikTok settings and reddit and discord objects for theirs. Use account_ids to narrow a post to specific accounts.

For a store with a blog, the same automation can write the product story as an SEO article. blog_create_article writes to a connected WordPress site or a Shopify store blog, and drafts are the default unless you set publish. The CLI equivalent is creatoros blog:create --title "Spring drop" --html article.html.

The open-source Social Agents project goes further: npm start creatoros social-agents starts an agent harness that interviews you about your brand, then posts, replies to comments and DMs, runs automations and reports, with a local dashboard. It runs on Creator OS and takes your own model, either a logged-in Claude Code, an ANTHROPIC_API_KEY, or any Anthropic-compatible API. The agent loop over one brand’s workspace.

Build your social media OS on an API social stack

An API social stack means every action is a call you can script, log and repeat, which is what turns a catalog into a content engine.

Creator OS gives you four surfaces over the same workspace: the web app, the iOS app, the REST API authenticated with a cos_live_ key, and the CLI. Ids are opaque typed tokens (acc_, post_, cmt_, conv_, msg_, auto_, med_, evt_, ad_, aud_), and errors use one shape: { error: { code, message, status } }. For the request shapes, start at the docs; the base URL lives there.

Webhooks close the loop. Subscribe to post.published, post.failed, comment.received and others, and every delivery is signed with X-CreatorOS-Signature:

creatoros webhooks:create \
  --url https://ops.example.com/hooks/social \
  --events post.published,post.failed,comment.received

That gives you a durable record of which product post went out, on which account, and whether it failed, without polling. If you are building this inside a product team, the SaaS API stack post goes deeper on key scoping and workspace design.

TikTok automation and scheduling: what to automate and what to keep human

Automate the mechanical gates on TikTok and keep the creative choice in human hands.

TikTok has the strictest rules of any network here, and Creator OS enforces them rather than hiding them. A photo carousel needs media_type photo and a description under 4,000 characters. Every video post requires privacy_level, allow_comment, allow_duet, allow_stitch, content_preview_confirmed and express_consent_given. Setting draft true sends the video to the TikTok Creator Inbox so a human finishes it in the app.

Task Automate Keep human
Caption length and hashtags Yes, check_caption_length No
Consent and privacy flags Yes, required fields No
Trending audio The API cannot attach it Bake sound into the file
Final creative review Send as draft Yes, in the TikTok app
Replying to TikTok comments Not supported by Creator OS Yes, in the app
Spark Ads on organic TikToks Yes, via the Ads add-on Budget approval

The practical pattern for a product drop: an agent generates the caption and carousel, the post lands as a draft in TikTok, a human adds trending audio and taps publish. If you want to see this loop run end to end, watch the walkthroughsand tutorials on the KevBuildsApps YouTube channel, and for the short-form editing side see the launch video.

What to measure: catalog coverage, clicks, and revenue per post

Measure three things: how much of the catalog you actually posted, how many clicks each post produced, and what each post earned.

Catalog coverage is not something Creator OS reports as a metric. You compute it from the product list and your post history: creatoros posts:list --status published --from 2026-02-01T00:00:00Z --to 2026-02-29T00:00:00Z gives you the published set, and the catalog call gives you the full list. The gap is your untouched stock.

Clicks come from trackable short links at go.creatoros.ca with click stats, created with the links_create MCP tool or found in the API reference. Put one per product in the first comment, since Instagram captions carry no clickable links, and Instagram supports firstComment for links. YouTube supports firstComment too, posted and pinned up to 10,000 characters, as does LinkedIn’s firstComment and Facebook’s. Creator OS does not list firstComment as an Instagram field beyond that use, so check the post options docs for the exact per-platform fields.

For the per-post view, use creatoros analytics:posts --platform instagram --sortBy engagement, analytics:daily for account trends, and analytics:best-time before you schedule the next batch. On Instagram Reels, get_post_analytics returns reelsSkipRate, igReelsAvgWatchTime and igReelsVideoViewTotalTime, which let an agent change the hook or length of the next video. Creator OS supplies the posting and the numbers; what the agent changes is decided by its own prompt or workflow.

FAQ

How do I automate social media content for multiple e-commerce platforms?

Connect each store and each set of socials as its own workspace inside a plan that allows it, then drive everything through the API, the MCP server or the CLI with a scoped key per workspace. On Agency plans each client workspace gets its own scoped API key, so an agent can only touch the brand it was given.

Can I connect my Shopify catalog to scheduled posts and carousels?

Yes. Connect the store with Shopify sign-in or an Admin API token, read products through the Commerce API or the Shopify MCP tools, upload product images once to get a med_ id, and pass those ids to POST /v1/posts with schedule_at and timezone. Products are created as drafts unless you ask for active, and stock, sales channels and markets need extra permissions the merchant approves.

What is a social agent and how does it differ from a scheduler?

A scheduler publishes what you queue. A social agent reads data first (catalog, analytics, comments), decides what to do, and calls tools to act, then checks the result. Creator OS provides the tools and the numbers through about 160 MCP tools and the REST API, and Social Agents is the open-source harness that runs that loop on your accounts.

Is TikTok automation safe for e-commerce brands?

Automating the required fields, caption checks and scheduling is safe because Creator OS refuses posts that break platform rules and fills the consent flags in the simple form. What you should not automate blindly is creative choice: send it as a draft, add trending audio in the app, and review before publishing. Note that replying to TikTok comments is not supported, and TikTok has no DMs.

Do I need an API social tool or can I use Creator OS alone?

You can use Creator OS alone from the web app or the iOS app and never touch a key. The API, the MCP server, the CLI and the agent skills are included in every plan, so you can add automation later without changing tools.
